Buongiorno,
here's my Market Watch from the Alemany farmers' market
for June 23rd. It's looking great out at the market, so start getting ideas for our upcoming vegetarian dinner.
If you try any of these ingredients, tell us:
How did you cook them,
who taste-tested them, and how were the reviews? Please post your
reports and recipes here, at the bottom of the post.
Ciao,
Marco Flavio
What I found this week:
Several varietals of California Apricots. From Blenheims to Kathy's (pictured above, with a red blush).
Try before you buy, the season is short and you want to avoid the cottonball-in-your-mouth effect... You know what I'm talking about. Here are some recipes from Allrecipes and Epicurious.
Sweet, sweet peaches. Drizzle some Sauvignon Blanc on them, a teaspoon of brown sugar and unplug the phone. Your morning is spoken for. Recipes from Allrecipes and Epicurious.
Oh yes, and the more perfumey fuzzless nectarines... they're here too.
Recipes from Allrecipes and Epicurious.
From Coachella valley we get these better-for-cooking black figs (as advertised a little more fibrous: they don't fall apart as much in the oven). Recipes from Allrecipes or Epicurious and a great one from WHFoods.
Corn is starting to arrive, but it's not great yet. I say wait.
Should be about ready for our dinner on July 15th.
Arugula is still plentiful and so very peppery, especially the wild one from Miramonte Farms.
Just sprinkle its leaves on a pizza, add some cubed fresh Mozzarella, a touch of hot pepper, a few lines of extra-virgin olive oil and some translucent crystals of sea salt... tastes like summer yet?
Recipes from Allrecipes and Epicurious.
And yes, you can't pass sunflowers by without taking some home. Worse than a puppy.
